The Dark Knight Rises – Prologue

December 13, 2011

Thug: Have we started the fire?
Bane: The fire rises.

Lets get to it. I was geeking out about the prologue of the much anticipated The Dark Knight Rises, and let me say, I was not disappointed. I was a BIT skeptical going in due to some recent chatter regarding Bane’s voice being almost impossible to understand, but aside from a few hiccups, sounded fine to me. What really bothers me is that we have to go through eight months of torture, waiting for what is presumably the greatest movie ever made. Anyways, I loved the Prologue a whole lot, and cannot wait to see what Nolan has in store for us. Let the fire rise!

*Spoilers Ahead*

This six-seven minute prologue, which is also the films opening, opens with a shot of Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) at the funeral of Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), and he mutters the words “I believed in Harvey Dent.” Immediately after, the 70mm IMAX screen filled up, and we are given a wide shot of a plane, where two hostages are being held by the CIA. When one of the hostages is revealed as Bane, he hijacks the plane, takes it over, and destroys it, taking the head of the CIA with him in a parachute. Right after the opening sequence ends, we are given a variety of 4-5 second long montages of various sequences throughout the film, which include Batman (Christian Bale) holding some sort of high-tech laser gun, Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), Bane and Batman fighting, the Batpod, street riots, and a shattering look of Bane carrying Batman’s mask, then dropping it.

The last bit of footage begs a major question; will Bane actually kill Batman? Although my common sense begs to differ, Director Christopher Nolan has a reputation for making his films completely unpredictable. Bane does break Batman’s back in the comics, but it is unlikely that Nolan will take the easy road because he is usually original in concept. News on the mortal return of Ra’s Al Ghul has yet to be announced, yet his character is making a return.

In other news, the video of the prologue has leaked online in average quality. It is getting taken down fairly quick, so I’d recommend searching it on google and see it before it is gone!
