Tim Lippe: I’m so bummed out!

Tim Lippe (Helms) was the guy people always thought would go places but then he just didn’t. He’s been living in uber-sleepy Brown Valley, Wisconsin his whole life, still pre-engaged? to his 7th grade teacher Millie Vanderhei (Weaver), while selling insurance to protect other people’s dreams. But now, Tim’s stalled life is about to get a kick-start because, for the first time in his 34 years, he’s headed to a place: metropolis — Cedar Rapids, Iowa — where he must try to save his company at a do-or-die insurance convention that, for him, will be entirely nonconventional.

Words cannot describe how incredibly intelligent this engrossing and entertaining comedy is. Who knew that a movie about an insurance convention taking place in a little known town could reproduce so many laughs! This film features comedy guru John C. Reily (Cyrus, Step Brothers) and a few short scenes with Alien star Sigourney Weaver.

The film is Directed by Miguel Arteta, who directed the 2009 dark comedy Youth in Revolt. What is best about Arteta directing, is that he doesn’t need to film somewhere amazing to make something amazing. The simplicity of the setting doesn’t negatively impede the film, it adds a more realistic setting which many audiences prefer.

Tim: [Gasps]
Macy: What is it Tim?
Tim: There’s an Afro-American man standing in my room.
Macy: What’s he doing?
Tim: He’s smiling at me.
