The Resident

February 5, 2011

“A lot of my tenants were moving out, so we are renovating the apartment.”

When Juliet suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft, she learns that Max, her landlord, has formed a frightening obsession with her.

The Resident is a suspenseful thriller starring Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen).

I really don’t know what to think of this. It should be renamed “The Stalker.” But hey, who cares? It’s a really creepy movie, it’s not a masterpiece, but it’s thoroughly entertaining throughout. I recommend for a one time watch.

Sure it’s a little predictable, sort of similar to Disturbia, but who cares? By the way, if you haven’t seen Disturbia, I recommend you check it out. Great film.

Acting:

Hilary Swank is as beautiful and talented as always, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is as scary and creepy as he’s ever been. His performance, to me, is his way of apologizing for 2010’s ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street.”

I’d also like to point out this: If you get knifed three times, shot with a nail gun 8 times, and got your head wacked by a crowbar, I don’t think you would survive… or at least be conscious.

Grade: C+
