Sherlock Holmes

December 6, 2010

“Are you mad Holmes?”

Sherlock Holmes is a reboot of the old books “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,” which is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes.

Detective Sherlock Holmes (Downey) and his stalwart partner Watson (Law) engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis (Strong) whose plot is a threat to all of England. In my opinion, this is a very great movie with good acting and they put humor to good use. I also love the use of fight scenes to show Holmes’ tactics, which are surprisingly precise.

“First, distract target. Then block his blind jab. Counter with cross to left cheek, then attempt wild haymaker, weaken right jaw. In summary, ears ringing, jaw fractured, three ribs cracked, four broken, diaphragm hemorrhaging, physical recovery six weeks, full psychological recovery six months, capacity to spit at back of head, neutralized.” (Then shows it in real-time)

I like the camera Director Guy Ritchie uses for the film. It reminds me of films such as 300, The Matrix, and even the forest scene in the LOST series finale. I think that all the fight scenes are hilarious. The part wear Holmes is running from the big bad guy with a ‘taser’ is just pure genius.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Mark Strong always plays a villain? (Kick-Ass, Robin Hood…)

Reaching a conclusion, Sherlock Holmes is an amazing blockbuster film that everyone will enjoy.

I liked Sherlock Holmes a lot. Good insight on Mark Strong though I hear he is playing a good guy in Green Lantern
